Math + Science + Technology = a great combination!

In standard math students have completed a unit on data collection and appropriate displaying of data. To culminate the unit we further explored the environmental issues they have been investigating in science. Students developed questions to highlight some of these concerns and conducted a survey. With the help of Mr. Bonavitacola, students developed excel spreadsheets and created graphs from same. Students have been encouraged to incorporate the graphs into their science research paper as original data.

Integrating Literacy & Technology into the Geography classroom!

During the month of January, seventh grade social studies students integrated literacy into the geography classroom. The students were beginning to learn about the region of Latin America. To create connections across the curriculum the students read the book Lupita Manana by Patricia Beatty. The book gave students a look into the lives of two young Mexican siblings trying to get over the border into America. It allowed the students to put a story and personality to the controversial issue of illegal immigration that our country is facing today. As a culminating project to the unit on immigration and Latin America the students created a Comic Life project based on the book they read. Using digital cameras the students reenacted the major scenes from the book and took pictures. They then imported the pictures into Comic Life and created a comic to show the major events and struggles from the book. The students also had the opportunity to add an epilogue to the story. And some even turned their comics into movies using the iMovie program and voice overs.

STN National Convention

ETV is an affiliate of the Student Television Network, the nations only scholastic broadcasting network.
Harold and I had a great opportunity to attend The Student Television Network national convention in Anaheim, CA. It was an opportunity for scholastic broadcast students and teachers to learn from professionals, and from each other, during a fast-paced three-day event. I enjoyed meeting teachers from Hawaii, Texas, Florida and other parts of New Jersey. One of my favorite sessions I attended was designed for teachers to compare curriculums. This was a great chance to discuss different possibilities for teaching television broadcasting.
